Millennials are now in their hotspot where they have influence and money in their wallets. Because of this, they are now every brand’s coveted customer. But the question still remains, how do we get ahold of them and what’s the best way to get their attention? According to a recent study done by the Harvard Business Journal, the answer is email. Email remains the standard for digital communication.
In fact, Millennials check email more than any other age group. This same study found that nearly 98% of Millennials check their personal email while at work at least every few hours. From a return on investment and marketing perspective, this is a great place to start. But keep in mind that they are more likely than any other age group to check email on smartphones, so your emails need to incorporate responsive design. Images are also an integral part of Millennial language, so marketers need to optimize emails for images.
Not every Millennial communicates the same way though. For example, current YMPA member, Erica Zankich from Essent, suggests that texting might be an even faster way to receive a response from the Millennial generation. She suggests that texting feels more personal and is directly intended for the receiver, whereas emails can feel a bit more blanketed in that they are targeting a larger audience. So be sure to keep this in mind the next time you are trying to reach your Millennial customers.
